A standard HDB hollow-core door blocks roughly 18 dB. A solid-core acoustic-laminated soundproof door blocks 30-38 dB. The gap is huge — the difference between hearing every word in the next room and only muffled tones.

Solid core or laminated acoustic core
Hollow-core doors are 95% air. Solid-core or laminated acoustic-core doors are dense — particle board, MDF or specialised acoustic core layered with mass-loaded vinyl. Density is what stops sound. We never quote a hollow-core door as soundproof.
Acoustic-grade door seal kit
A 5 mm gap under a door leaks more sound than the entire door panel. Every soundproof door we install carries an acoustic seal kit — head seal, jamb seal, drop-down threshold seal — that compresses when the door closes.

Heavy-duty hinges and rebated jamb
A 40 kg solid-core door needs hinges that won’t sag and a jamb that won’t flex. We supply 4-knuckle ball-bearing hinges and reinforced timber or aluminium jambs on every soundproof main door.
Drop-down threshold seal — the floor gap closer
When the door swings shut, an automatic drop-down seal extends to the floor and closes the gap. This single component separates a real soundproof door from a thicker hollow-core. We fit one on every install.

What HDB and SCDF require for soundproof doors
Singapore main door installations carry HDB renovation permit, BCA fire-rating and SCDF compliance requirements. Fortified handles every permit and inspection — you don’t fill any forms.
Renovation Permit
HDB requires a Renovation Permit if the door frame profile changes or a digital lock is added. We submit and track the permit — typical approval 5–7 working days.
Fire Rating
HDB main doors above the 4th storey may require BCA-rated F30 fire doors per common-corridor compartmentation. We supply F30 / F60 acoustic-rated options.
Corridor Hours
HDB stipulates noisy work in common-corridor areas only between 9am – 5pm Mon–Sat. We schedule demolition windows within these hours.
Opening Direction
HDB main doors must open inwards into the unit. We re-rebate the jamb to match if your existing door opens outward.
Surface Protection
Common corridor floor and lift-lobby surfaces must be protected during install. We supply corrugated cardboard + canvas cover at no extra cost.

Will a soundproof door work if my walls are thin?
A door is one part of an acoustic envelope. If your wall is a single-skin partition, the door upgrade alone gives you maybe 60% of the gain it would in a solid wall. We can quote combined wall + door treatment.
How long does a soundproof door installation take in HDB?
Stock solid-core bedroom doors are usually completed within a single working day. Acoustic-laminated and heavy-duty main doors take 2-3 weeks lead time, but on-site install is still one day.
Do I need an HDB permit to change my main door to a soundproof one?
HDB main door replacement requires a renovation permit if the frame profile changes or if a digital lock is added. We handle the permit application.
Are your soundproof doors fire-rated?
Standard residential bedroom doors are not fire-rated by default. We offer F30 / F60 fire-rated acoustic doors for commercial fit-out, server rooms and any application where SCDF or URA requires it.
