A soundproof window is not a single product — it is an engineered assembly. The frame, glass, air gap, seals and installation method each contribute to noise reduction. A 90 dB MRT pass-by reaches a quiet 40 dB indoors only when all five layers work together.
GLAZING
Multi-layer glazing — double or triple panes
Two or three glass panes with an air or argon-filled gap between them. The gap is the actual sound barrier. A double glazed window typically blocks 30-35 dB; triple glazed pushes 40 dB+. We size the gap based on the noise frequency you face.
ACOUSTIC GLASS
Laminated acoustic glass with PVB inter-layer
A clear PVB layer sandwiched between two glass panes dampens sound vibration. Acoustic-grade PVB outperforms standard PVB by 4-6 dB. We specify laminated glass for windows facing PIE, BKE, MRT lines and busy main roads.
FRAME
Multi-chambered UPVC or thermally-broken aluminium frame
The frame matters as much as the glass. UPVC has 4-6 internal chambers that absorb vibration; aluminium needs a thermal break to stop sound conduction. We never spec single-chamber aluminium for soundproof windows.
SEALS
Compression seals and dual-action gaskets
A 1 mm gap around the sash leaks more sound than the rest of the window combined. We use EPDM compression gaskets on every soundproof window we install, and pressure-test the seal during handover.
INSTALLATION
Correct site installation and reveal sealing
Even the best soundproof glass window fails if the gap between window and reveal is not properly packed. We use acoustic-grade backer rod and non-hardening sealant — never plain silicone.
